Under the theme “Cultural Integrity”, Kohima College celebrated its 54th Cultural cum Literary Day on 11th March 2023 at the college courtyard with Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu, Asst. Prof., Dept. of English, KCK as speaker. The programme was organized by the Kohima College Students’ Council (KCSC) & Cultural Cell, KCK.
Speaking on the theme, Keditsu emphasized the need to research, revive, reject, and reinterpret (4Rs) our traditional culture. She stated that equating everything from our past as regressive and modernity with progressive values is harmful and harming. “What do we want to keep? What do we want to do away with? And what can we conserve by modifying?” To take the best of tradition and modernity and create more inclusive practices which embody ethical, and moral values and enrich lives. She further added that understanding & respecting our own culture is the beginning of understanding and respecting other cultures, and appealed to use such opportunities as this programme to foster and value each other’s culture. This would bridge our differences and create empathy.
Keneilesa Neikha, Vice Principal, KCK delivered the welcome address, and Meribeni, Girls Welfare Secy., delivered a short speech in commemoration of International Women’s Day. Gwanyele Kent pronounced the invocation prayer and Iteibuibo, Social & Cultural Secy., KCSC delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by Sameer Khati.
Cultural presentations included a cultural dance by the Zeliangrong Troops, a flute performance by Sogwalo Seb, an indigenous song by the Chakesang students of KCK, a Folk fusion song by Arola & Akhrienuo and an ethnic fashion show I/c Thejavizo Venuh.
