Press Conference at Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) was held on 19th April 2023 at NIMSR Conference Hall, Kohima.
Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Paiwang Konyak said it was a historic day for the people of Nagaland to start Medical College after 60 years of Statehood. The 100 MBBS seats "LETTER OF INTENT" for the academic year 2023-24 was approved by the National Medical Commission, Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB).
The Minister appreciated the efforts and initiatives taken by the Commissioner and Secretary H&FW, Y. Kikheto Sema IAS, Principal Directors, Dr. Soumya Chakraborty Director NIMSR, and her team, MD NHAK and his team, Er Naro and her team.
He also thanked all the Contractors for their cooperation. He further said that LOI/ LOP from the NMC is not the end but it is beginning to start the Medical College and requested cooperation, prayer, and support from all the people of the State.
Commissioner and Secretary H&FW, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS had submitted the Agreement, Affidavit, and Compliance Report on 7th Feb 2023 that all the required Infrastructures, Manpower, Equipments, Teaching Hospital, etc would be ready by 31st May 2023 to start 100 MBBS Seats for the academic session 2023-24. The 2nd Compliance Agreement, Affidavit was sent to the NMC on 6th March 2023. Kikheto said that the medical college will create an opportunity not only for the State's success but will also help students who are unable to pursue medical studies outside. He mentioned that the teaching staff was recruited purely on merit basis and there was no conflict of interest in faculty selection.
Principal Director, Dr. Soumya Chakraborty NIMSR said that this college/institution is an asset not only for Nagaland but for the entire country and it is one of the first Post COVID achievements in the country.
