District Soil Conservation Office, Wokha Nagaland observed World Soil Day with the Theme, “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage” on December 5 at Molunsu Community Hall, Wokha.

Pelebei U Kense, JSCO presented on the importance of soil health, sustainable farming practices and the role of soil conservation in combating climate change and encouraged farmers to adopt practices that ensure long term soil health and productivity.

Chumbeni Odyuo, DSCO led the pledge to promote sustainable soil management under the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage”.

The program chaired by Mhao Jami, SCA began with invocation by R. Chumbemo Kikon, SCA, and Yanpothung Jami, SCA while conveying welcome speech briefed the gathering on the significance of observing World Soil Day.

Representatives from farmers also shared success stories and practical insights into improving soil fertility.

During the event, soil health cards were also distributed to farmers, providing valuable insights into the nutrient status of their soils The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by C. Chumbemo Kikon, SCA. Altogether 40 farmers along with officials participated at the event.
