Deputy Commissioner, Mon Wennyei Konyak, NCS has notified the regulation of sale and use of firecrackers in Mon District. The notification stated that Firecrackers are brought into Mon District from outside and are sold and used during Diwali and other festive occasions. It observed that the use of firecrackers may cause air and noise pollution and pose risk to public safety. It further stated that Supreme Court of India and the Government of Nagaland have issued directions regulating the sale and use of firecrackers. The following directions are issued for strict compliance throughout Mon District.

1. Only licensed/authorized persons shall be permitted to possess and sell firecrackers. Temporary sale shall be allowed only at locations approved by the competent authority.

2. Only permitted/green crackers complying with the applicable standards shall be sold and used. Sale and use of prohibited, high-noise and banned crackers, including joined/ series crackers shall not be permitted.

3. Firecrackers brought into Mon District shall be lawfully procured and transported and no unauthorized stock shall be permitted.

4. Firecrackers shall be stored only in licenced/approved premises and adequate fire-safety measures shall be maintained.

5. Bursting of firecrackers shall be permitted only during the timing prescribed by the Supreme Court/ Government of Nagaland and shall not be allowed in prohibited/Silence zones.

6. The Superintendent of Police, Mon and other concerned authorities shall conduct necessary checks and ensure strict enforcement of this order.

7. Any violation shall invite seizure of the firecrackers and appropriate action under the applicable laws/rules.

This order shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force until further order.
