NOKLAK HOLDS SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME ON 'COMBATING CHILD TRAFFICKING'

A one-day District Level Sensitization programme on 'Combating Child Trafficking' was observed on the occasion of "World Day Against Human Trafficking" in aegis of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' on 5th August 2022 at DC Conference Hall, Noklak. 

Deputy Commissioner, Noklak Hiazu Meru stated that Child Trafficking is a serious crime and the worst form of human rights violations prevalent in many parts of our country. Combating child trafficking requires the intervention and attention of a cross-section of stakeholders. 

Noklak is a new district functional from 2020 and has a porous International border with Myanmar. There are many cases of children from poor families from across the border and within the district taken to other urban towns in the state to study and use as domestic help, DC added. 

Consultant, National Commission for protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Kapil Sharma, in his PowerPoint presentation shared on human trafficking in the global scenario and the country as well. Sharing on Child right in India, he said that, several rights have been guaranteed to children in the Constitution of India. 

Kapil Sharma also spoke on the vision of NCPCR, where he stated that NCPCR is to ensure that no child in the country is deprived of his/her basic and inalienable rights ie, survival, development, protection, and participation following the Constitution framework, law, policy, and UNCRC. 

Addl. Superintendent of Police, Noklak, Chinese speaking on the occasion as Resource Person said the trade of human traffic is most common for Sexual Slavery, Force Labour, or Commercial sexual exploitation.

He shared the constitutional and legal mechanism, mentioning the Indian Penal Code section 370, which provides for comprehensive measures to counter the menace of human trafficking including the trafficking of children. 

Further, Addl. SP elaborated on the vulnerable sections of people and preventive measures to be taken up. He requested civil societies to come forward for any case that arises and urged them to spread awareness of human trafficking. 

Earlier, the programme was chaired by SDO (Civil) Noklak C. Phuniang and attended by Civil Societies, organizations, DBs, and Government officials.
