The Opening Ceremony of the World U20 Athletics Championships was held late on 17th August, 2021 at the world famous Karanani Stadium, popularly known as the Home of Heroes at Nairobi in Kenya. Due to Covid restrictions, only five persons were allowed to represent a country at the grand opening.
Associate Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India, Abu Metha was the Team Leader while India’s flag bearer was Kunwer Ajai Singh Rana, who is competing in the Men’s Javelin. India has a 38 member team comprising of coaching staff and team officials. This is the first time that an Indian Athletics team to the World Championships is being led by a person from the entire northeast. The Ceremony was also attended by AFI President, Adille Sumariwala.
