Minister for Health & Family Welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom inaugurated the Herbel Garden at at Borgohain Hall, Yingli College, Longleng on 29th October 2021.

Pangnyu Phom said that herbal medicines it is not a new topic but is something that has been in practice for a long period of time and in India, it has been researched and estimated over 5,000 medical plants till date. He added that it is the vision of the Prime Minister that we emphasize more on the use of herbal medicines and that we do more research work and focus on exploring and even reach the extent of exporting to different parts of the world.

The Minister further stressed on the need to reach out to every nook and corners and explore more medicines which lay hidden in our forests. He added that we should not keep away with scientific medicines but at the same time not forgetting our old traditional medicines.

MO, AYUSH, Dr. Visino Nakhro, CHC Yachem, in her short speech said medicinal plants have played an integral part in our country and particularly Northeast India is a treasure house to tea and herbs. The biodiversity of this region is remarkably the richest in the country.
State Medicinal Plant Board has been setting up herbal gardens to promote and conserve Medicinal Plants. It is an initiative taken to bring awareness and show the importance of herbal medicines, which are very much part of our everyday life. She further said, the State Medicinal Plant Board intends to establish herbal plant to popularize its importance and to conserve and use them for educational and research purposes.

Nakhro added, under the scheme, the State Medicinal Plant promote through the National Medicinal Plant Board, provides financial assistance to set up different types of herbal gardens to promote cultivating and create awareness among the local people. This will also help marginal farmers to cultivate and raise their income, this will also provide scope for gardening and maintain service as an income generator, she added.

President, Yachem Students’ Union, Hamlen Phom highlighted the report on the project, Principal, Yingli College, Dr.T.Temsu Imti delivered the words of gratitude, CMO Longleng Dr. Obangjungla chaired the programme Assoc.Pastor for women, Oushok Baptist Church said the benediction.
