Mon District held its 9th District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) meeting under National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) on 11th July 2025 at Deputy Commissioner’s, Conference Hall, Mon.

Deputy Commissioner, Mon, Wennyei Konyak chaired the meeting. He congratulated the 19 Schools who recently declared Tobacco Free School and handed over the certificates. The DC said that tobacco is an irritating substance, which is difficult to quit. He added that it is very encouraging to see many schools and colleges declaring Tobacco Free School zone, especially from sub-division. He also appeals to the gathering to promote a tobacco free zone besides Schools and educational institutions.

Konyak also congratulated Chenwetnyu Village, the only village in Mon district to have declared tobacco free village. He also appealed to the people to teach the disadvantages of using tobacco and its effects in the family and society.

Dr. Esther Chophy Ngulli, NTCP Mon presented a glimpse of NTCP activities. She also highlighted that recently 19 schools have declared Tobacco Free School. Altogether she said, there are 77 (Seventy-Seven) schools, 2 (Two) colleges, 69 homes and 1 (one) village Tobacco Free Zone, in the district.

She also spoke on Enforcement Drive to strengthen COTPA 2003 in the district, and requested the officials especially the Police Department, the civil Societies and general public to cooperate for Enforcement Drive. She also appealed to go for an enforcement drive once in a month.
