Department of PHED, Wokha division, Water & Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO) is organizing a 4-day (17th October to 20th October 2022) training on community level participants under the JJM project for the village council chairman, VDB secretaries, and WATSAN members starting today the 17th October 2022 at WDVCCA multipurpose building hall. The training is being imparted by SLIEM (Salt Lake Institute of Engineering & Management Ltd, Kolkata).
EAC Wokha Yentinngbou lauded the Department for organizing such programmes for the village functionaries to sensitize them about the importance of safe water and hygiene, conservation of water, and most importantly to remind them about their roles and responsibilities how to maintain and operate after the completion of the project.
He further stated that the government has targeted to provide safe and functional tap water connections by 2024, he urged all the stakeholders, and village functionaries to extend support to the implementing agencies for the successful completion of the project which will benefit the people to a great extent. He also appealed to all to understand the value of the project/mission and take ownership and custody to make the project a sustainable one.
Er. Gwatilo Tep, SE PHED, Dimapur Nagaland appraised the Status of the JJM project of our State scenario, where he stated that the project was started in the year 2019-2022 and the government has directed to finish the project by 2024, and per 15th October 2022 status report, the State has achieved 52% of the project.
While congratulating Wokha district for the commendable job and achieving 71% functional household tap water connection within the district, he said Wokha district is ahead of the state percentage and urged the Department to continue with the same commitment and dedication and achieve the target within the stipulated time, and urged the village functionaries to know their roles and responsibilities in maintaining the project so that the project becomes a successful one which would benefit the people.
Dr. Biplab Ghosh, resource person, SLIEM Skills, while giving a brief introduction about the purpose of imparting the training, said the aim is to sensitize the village functionaries about the concept of JJM and Har Ghar Jal, how to maintain traditional drinking water supply tap water connection, vision, mission, objectives, goals, and opportunities under JJM, water quality monitoring and surveillance, enabling environment- development of responsible and responsive leadership, overseeing of water supply infrastructure during construction by the community and post-implementation monitoring.
The inaugural programme ended with a vote of thanks from Executive Engineer, PHED Wokha, Er. Imnazulu Ao.
