The Department of Land Resources Longleng conducted a training on Designs and upscaling of perma/potager kitchen Garden concept at District Project Office Longleng on 23rd September 2020.

A brief introductory note was given by PBCA Execution Secretary, Tialemba Phom where he emphasized on the role and importance of kitchen garden particularly for a land locked-district like Longleng. In a worst case scenario situation like the prevailing Covid-19 case, the necessity of self-sustaining food security setup like kitchen garden becomes very important. He opined that churches and women in particular should play an important in popularizing kitchen garden concept in Longleng district. He lauded the department people's friendly initiative, which is of one its kind in Longleng.

Kughalu Chishi, District Project Office Longleng, exhorted the trainees to be attentive, learn and logically strategize the planning and layout aspects of the kitchen garden. He stated that the success of the kitchen garden concept depends on farmers initiative and interest.

The training started with kitchen garden concept its relevance, pictorial presentation of design and layouts, site selection, soil preparation/soil building, seed bank, cropping season and pattern, companion planting and its benefits and keyhole concepts. Vegetable seeds were distributed to all selected beneficiaries.

Altogether trainees from 14 Micro-watershed villages attended the training.
