Integrated Molecular Diagnostic and Research Laboratory (BSL-2) was inaugurated at Tuensang District Hospital on 28th August 2020. Minister for Health &Family Welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom inaugurated the BSL-2 in the presence of H. Haying Advisor for Prison, Printing and Stationery, Toshi Wuntung Advisor IPR, SCERT, VG, Tuensang District Task Force Incharge, District Administrations, District Police, Officials of Directorate of H&FW, Civil Societies leader and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, S. Pangyu Phom congratulated the Tuensang District for materializing the lab and appreciated the engineers and technicians for consuming lesser times in completion despite hurdles and lock down constraints. He appreciated the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and PDA government for the commitment to construct the BSL-2 Lab for the people of the remote districts which can extend services to the people of Mon, Longleng, Kiphire and Noklak districts. In times of uncertainty like this when the Nagaland is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, life has been put on hold but we could achieve better control of the pandemic with lesser mortality rate with the successful completed construction of three BSL labs by government is acknowledgeable, he stated

He also encouraged the District Task Force Members and Civil societies for monitoring the construction work activities. If civil societies could only take responsibility in guiding the developmental activities many quality infrastructures can be witnessed in the district, he stated. He said with this laboratory lots of life can saved and many more services can be given to the coming generations as well.

H. Haying Advisor also appreciated the government for the development stating that it is a big day for the people of Tuensang and a milestone in the medical field. He acknowledged the hard works of the members of the district Task Force Tuensang in containing the COVID -19 pandemic and performing as one of the best teams in fighting the pandemic in the state. 

Advisor, Toshi Wungtung appreciated the senior scientists and engineers for completing the much needed lab to fight the COVID pandemic in time. He also highlighted on the government’s need of labs in urgency. Research, analysis and proper infrastructures are very important to diagnose so that right treatment and right medication can be served, he said. This is a big launch pad which will give big relief to the citizen not only in medical field but also will help a lot in expenditures and timely administration of the diseases with accurate diagnosis which can target the cure and heal specifically, he said. The prime motto of this hospital should be “cure and heal centre” with right information and right medication so that Tuensang have a civilized health making biggest medical zone inclusive of neighbouring district and even beyond borders, he added.

Nungsanglemba President CKS also spoke on behalf of all the tribal bodies and civil societies. Tuensang is a nerve centre for entire eastern part of Nagaland, having completed the installation of BSL-2 lab Tuensang can give services to general mass of the region, he said.   He said that tribal bodies and civil societies have been working tirelessly supporting and assisting the medical fraternity in every possible way.

Kevichusa Medikhru Mission Director NHM appreciated the technicians for the speedy work and the government in fulfilling the dream of Tuensang by installing the BSL -2 Lab. He also highlighted that the construction of the Lab cost government around 5 crores in purchasing equipments and other civil works. The lab will be functional with two research scientists, two well trained professional lab techs, data entry operator and a lab assistant, he said.

The dedicatory prayer was done by Rev. Achu Chang Executive Secretary CBLT, welcome note was addressed by Dr. Zathung Medical Superintendent District Hospital Tuensang while the programme was chaired by Dr. I. Moatemjen Chief Medical Officer Tuensang. Vote of thanks was given by Kumar Ramnikant IAS, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang.
