The 11th Anniversary of LEMSACHENLOK and the launch of the Go Green Initiative Project took place on November 4, 2023, in collaboration with Tata Motors Limited. The event was hosted at Chang Awa, Yaongyimchen Village, under Longleng District, Nagaland, with Ravindrakumar G.P, Chief Human Resources Officer of Tata Motors Limited, serving as the Chief Guest.
In his speech, Ravindrakumar GP congratulated the LEMSACHENLOK team, led by Dr. Y. Nuklu Phom, for their steadfast commitment to community conservation and various social welfare activities. He emphasized that Tata Motors Limited is not solely a commercial organization but also a group with a deep concern for environmental and social issues. The introduction of the Go Green Initiative Project marks a significant step in the direction of planting ten lakh trees of 25 local species over the next 2 to 3 years. This initiative aims to generate income for local communities and enhance their economic well-being.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, Indian Forest Service (IFS), Senior Scientist at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, shared his experiences and insights on the 10-year conservation milestone of the Amur Falcon. He praised the efforts of LEMSACHENLOK in conserving these birds in Nagaland and acknowledged the collective effort of the Nagaland community in protecting the Amur Falcon, a remarkable success story in the conservation world. He stressed that biodiversity is deeply ingrained in Naga culture, with elders passing down knowledge about the importance of preserving biodiversity to younger generations.
The program featured greetings from S. Nungdang, Village Council Member (VCM) of Yaongyimchen Village, and a welcome address by Dr. Y. Nuklu Phom, Team Leader of LEMSACHENLOK. Solidarity messages were delivered by Temsumoa, Village Council Chairman (VCC) of Chuchuyimpang Village, and Sangpa, Village Council Chairman (VCC) of Yangpi Village. Further insights were shared by Dr. Temsu, Principal of Yingli College, Longleng, and P. Tiatemsu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, on the topic, "Augmenting Research Camaraderie." Chepe-ü Koza, Range Officer of Longleng Forest Division, and Dr. Samuel Konyak, EAC, Longleng, discussed "A Common Concern Towards Mitigating Biodiversity Loss." A short speech was delivered by Ranvir Knowar, Zonal Manager, Eastern Region, Kolkata.
Special cultural programs, including "Cultural Chain" by the Golden Agers of Yaongyimchen Village and "Valuing Tradition" by the Cultural Team of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, were the highlights of the day.
During the event, Ravindrakumar GP inaugurated the Community WatchTower at Sanglu Village, the Community Bridge at Lomching Village, and the Go Green Initiative Project Nursery at Lomching Village. He also inaugurated the Go Green Initiative Project and Seed Bank and Exchange Axis at Yaongyimchen Village during the formal program.
The program, chaired by Susan from Team LEMSACHENLOK, concluded with a vote of thanks by Watikala Phom from Team LEMSACHENLOK, followed by a benediction by Somla, Youth Pastor of Yaongyimchen Baptist Church.
