The commemorating of the 126 Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and part of 75 Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a programme was observed in Chesezu village in Phek district with Deputy Commissioner Phek, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS as Chief Guest on 18th January 2023.
Kumar Ramnikant said Netaji came to Chesezu fighting for the freedom of the country. In the time of Netaji, the country (India) was living under the tyranny of British rule. Chesezu was fortunate to witness the inspiration, motivation, and teachings of Netaji. He said Bose was qualified in Civil Service at the age of 21 years but he declined to work under the British and he never compromised with injustice.
He urged Chesezu village to maintain the statue of Bose and assured the district administration would also give its best. Chesezu is on the world map as Netaji was in the village, he added. DC appealed to the large gathering for a free and fair election in the forthcoming general election, "great names have great responsibilities therefore Chesezu should be a model village" he added.
Keduosie-u M Rio, Director of Tourism unveiled the Watch Tower of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (funding agency Ministry of Tourism, Government of India executed by Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland).
Vezo Swuro a close associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose surviving was present at the Iconic Events and was also felicitated by the Deputy Commissioner.
Earlier, a welcome speech was delivered by the Chairman of Chesezu Village Council. The unfurling of the national flag by the Deputy Commissioner of Phek, playing of the national anthem, cultural performance by Chesezu villagers were followed by the Netaji slogan-a tribute to Netaji by Sunday school children of Chetheba Town Baptist Church were the highlights of the programme. Words of gratitude was expressed by EAC Chozuba. The ceremony was presided over by Nyamok N. Konyak, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Chetheba.
