The 19th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2026, organised by Mokokchung District Volleyball Association commenced on 22nd september, 2026 with Chairperson, Mokokchung Municipal Council, Imkongchuba A, as the guest of honour, at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung.

In his inaugural ceremony speech, Imkongchuba, recalled the life of late Imchaba Master, who passed away in 1948, yet remembered today for his honesty, sincerity and strict discipline. He was a man who served through education, faith, sports and lived a social life. A person's life is not measured only by the years he lives, but also by what continues to live after him, he added.

Recalling the history of Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy, Imkongchuba said, the tournament began in 2003 and was initially confined to Mokokchung district, but later in 2009 open its doors to the teams from across the state and became an annual event to celebrate together. The hope remains for a larger aspiration to eventually elevate the trophy into a North-East Open tournament, he added.

He said, since its inception, some distinguished players, coaches and referees went on to find employment in police, sports departments and central paramilitary forces. While appreciating the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association in organising the event, he also encouraged the players to compete with determination and respect and strengthen the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship.

Earlier the inaugural programme was chaired by Pretty Tzudir, while the welcome address was delivered by Convenor of the Planning Committee, Imliyanger.
