Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu inaugurated the 1st Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament organised by the Inter Department Badminton Club (IDBC) Kohima at Nagaland Legislative Assembly Multi-purpose hall, Kohima on 22nd October 2021.
Neiba Kronu speaking at the event said that badminton is an interesting sport and such event is a good beginning to encourage all to take the sport forward. As a badminton player himself, he encouraged youngsters to take up the sports not only as a hobby, but to be become professional and bring laurels for the state. Kronu said that for quite some time, the state could not performed well in sports sectors due to lack of infrastructure in the state, adding that much is needed to be done by the state government to bring improvement in sports sectors in our State. He also expressed happiness that many women including paramilitary players are taking part in the tournament.
Convener IDBC, Shanavas C delivering his welcome speech, thanked all the departments for participating and said that winning is not everything but having the participatory spirit should be the main purpose. He is hopeful that such event will bring progress and developmental in the state and encouraged all the players to display a great sportsmanship among themselves and make the tournament a great success.
The tournament will be held in three categories: men’s double, women’s double and mixed double and winner of the event for each category will receive a cash of Rs. 12,000 and runner up Rs. 8000 respectively.
