The 1st Meluri District Open Badminton Tournament 2026, organised by the Meluri District Badminton Association (MDBA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland, and the District Administration, Meluri, concluded with a closing programme held at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, Meluri, on October 5 2026.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Meluri, Shelly Katiry NCS, graced the closing programme as the Guest of Honour.
The ADC in his address, highlighted the importance of sports not only as a means of recreation but also for maintaining physical fitness and overall well-being. He encouraged the younger generation to actively engage in sports and make sports a part of their lives.
He stated that Meluri now being a district, the Meluri District Badminton Association (MDBA) provides a valuable platform for the younger generation to develop their skills and pursue their interest in badminton. He appreciated the MDBA for organising the first-ever district-level badminton tournament and expressed hope that it would encourage greater participation in sports.
Shelly Katiry urged the MDBA as well as the citizens of the Pochury community to work collectively towards upgrading sports facilities and infrastructure in the district. He called upon the citizens to contribute and work together in the days ahead towards creating better facilities and opportunities for aspiring sportspersons.
He concluded by extending his best wishes to all the participants and expressed hope that the inaugural district badminton tournament would mark the beginning of greater opportunities and continued growth of badminton in Meluri.
The tournament concluded with the declaration of winners in the respective categories. Atsiatho Nyuthe and Apothsutho emerged as champions in the Men’s Open Doubles, while Thsukuotho Phoji and Saratho Nyusou were the runners-up.
In the Sub-Veteran (35+) category, Javan and Kuthotso Tunyi secured the championship, with Thsukuotho Phoji and Saratho Nyusou finishing as runners-up.
In the Veteran (45+) category, Javan and Kuthotso Tunyi emerged as champions, while Khruosütho Nyuthe and Chahie Nyusou were the runners-up.
In the Women’s Doubles, Atsarho Phoji and Lowie Kajiri emerged as champions, while Küthsülo and Eülüacy Thurr secured the runners-up position. The winners were presented with certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their achievements
