The First ever State Open Volleyball Championship, organized by Youth Resources & Sports Department (YRS) in collaboration with Nagaland Volleyball Association (NVA), commenced at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on 16th November 2022.

Director, YRS, Akumla Chuba, NCS while declaring the Championship open, said that sports in Nagaland have come to the forefront and indeed Nagas are second to none. Even with the challenges faced by the sportsmen in the State, she encouraged their dedication to sports and said that the Department along with the State Government will give their best to develop infrastructure and quality of sports in all districts. She also focused on the importance of fitness in life and asked the youths to be exemplary ambassadors of fitness and health. With many lifestyle diseases that are on the rise, Chuba requested the sportspersons to show others how fitness is important in life. The Director further encouraged the women to take up sports because many potential professions have not been explored by Naga women. She also said that this would help in gender equality and the empowerment of young women.

A total number of 10 teams are taking part in the championship;

  4. Seven Brothers Kiruphema
  5. MH 10 Kohima (Senior)

 

Women:

  1. Volleyball Lovers
  2. Peren District Volleyball Association
  3. Prüsachodu United
  4. Elite Sisters Lazami
  5. Mystic

 

The programme was chaired by Jacob Yanthan, President NVA.
