Day two of the 2nd Canoe Spring/Boat Race which is a part of the ongoing Hornbill festival begins today the 6th of December 2022 at Falcon Creek, Tsuza Eryu Doyang, Pangti village under Wokha district. The event was graced by Principal Bailey Baptist College, Wokha Penthungo Ngullie as the special guest.

Addressing the participants on the first day of the competition, Penthungo Ngullie said despite the rich natural resources Wokha district is blessed with a beautiful landscape that has the potential to generate revenues for self-sustainability, he urged to think in terms of exploring the gifted resources and potentials to a greater level, he further stated that through this kind of activities, one can create a greater platform to attract tourist as well as generate revenue to boost the economy for a progressive society.

On the first day of the event, a canoe sprint for the fishermen/single category was held, where 14 participants took part in the competition. Lawerence Yanthan, Longshithung Kikon, and Nzanthung Shitiri emerged as the first, second and third respectively. The event organizer informed that the second-day canoe sprint will be conducted in doubles categories.

The event was organized as part of the hornbill festival which was supported and sponsored by the Tourism Department, Government of Nagaland. The organizers, The Falcon Creek stated that their objective is targeted at creating recreation for fishermen, a talent hunt in coordination with the Government of India in near future, and tapping the tourism potential in the area and other activities. Also, their principles and values centers are for self-sufficiency, gainful employment, upliftment of the local economy, and responsible tourism.
