2nd Millet Festival was organised by the Meluri Millet Sisters, in collaboration with Millet Network of India and NEN (Northeast Network) with the theme ‘Celebrating common heritage for a shared, resilient future’ at Meluri Village Council Hall on 31st August 2022.

Phrumasie Nyuthe, SDAO, Meluri gracing the festival as a special guest, stressed on the importance of agriculture, without which, human sustenance and livelihood will be impossible. Millet, being known as the most tolerable crop for human health, should be preserved and production should be promoted.

Velazonuo Kikhi, Associate Project Leader, Northeast Network delivering the keynote, address, appealed to the people of Meluri and Pochury as a whole to encourage and support millet farmers for the upliftment of our future society.

Greeting messages were delivered by Kezunyipeu Tsiihah, Chairperson of Chizami Women Society, VCC Meluri and VCC Khumiasii. Head GB, Meluri Zuspa Kajiri spoke on the topic ‘Millet and its cultural significance to Pochury Community.’ Kiiriitsechu Cotton SHG Meluri and Cotton Group SHG Khumiasii presented a traditional item each on the occasion.

Earlier, the special guest inaugurated exhibitions and Farmers’ Market Stall. Around 100 people attended the festival including millet sisters, public leaders and various SHGs.
