In a significant boost to sustainable agriculture, the Department of Soil & Water Conservation, Mokokchung, developed 35 units of vermicompost structures in Ungma village under (CSLDP) 2025-26, funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
As part of the initiative, an awareness creation program on vermiculture was conducted in the DSCO conference hall on 11th July 2026 for the selected beneficiaries to equip them with proper management techniques. Following the session, high-quality vermi worms were distributed to the beneficiaries to kick start their organic production.
Highlighting the benefits of the project, experts emphasized that vermicompost is vastly superior to traditional Farm Yard Manure (FYM) or other conventional organic-enriching properties. It significantly improves soil health, enhances crop yield, and retains moisture more effectively. Farmers in the region are strongly encouraged to actively adopt vermiculture practices to promote eco-friendly farming and boost sustainable crop productivity.
