Deputy Chief Minister & Minister Home, Government of Nagaland, Y. Patton graced the inaugural function of the 4th edition of the Lt. Bishop Abraham memorial volleyball tournament as the special guest at St. Paul’s Parish Wokha on 3rd Oct 2022. The three-day tournament was organized by Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM) and hosted by St. Paul’s Parish Wokha.

Patton said Lt. Bishop Abraham spent his entire life in the service of God and his faithful people. He has served the Lord in different capacities all over the country during his lifetime and had carried out uncountable activities of soul saving and strengthening the spiritual faith of the people in general and the catholic believers in particular. It is a good thing that Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement is keeping the momentum of this volleyball tournament so that all the good works done by Lt. Bishop Abraham during his life are remembered and kept afresh.

Patton said the Catholics have established numerous institutions even in the remotest places of Nagaland and had been a pioneer in providing quality education and they have contributed much to the overall socio-economic development through their services of education, health care, and social commitment thereby contributing significantly towards social transformation besides the works for spiritual nourishment.

Rev.Fr. Dr. C. S. Francis, Principal of St. Xavier College, Jalukie, appraising the gathering about Late Bishop Abraham, said this gathering is a manifestation of a vision and mission planted and nurtured by him since 1973 and spreading deeper and wider through today. "This event becomes a greater tribute to him as this year marks the 25th year of Bishop Abraham’s birthday in heaven as he departed this world in 1977," He added.

Rev.Fr. Dr. C. S. Francis challenged the youngsters to take this occasion and live their vocation and let the catholic communities be a blessing for everyone around them. During the programme, 16 catholic youth achievers who recently cleared NPSC were felicitated.

62 participating teams from 12 districts (32 men & 30 women) are taking part in the tournament.
