The Inter-Department Badminton Club (IDBC), in collaboration with the District Administration, Kohima, organised the 6th Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament at the Multi-Purpose Hall, NLA Stadium, Kohima, on 11th September 2026.
Delivering the welcome address, Er. Sabou Yashü, Director, IT and President, IDBC, said that the tournament was initiated to bring together government employees from different departments, providing them an opportunity to interact, build friendships and promote a healthy lifestyle through sports.
He expressed gratitude to the participants, sponsors, well-wishers and the media for their continued support, and encouraged everyone to enjoy the tournament in the spirit of sportsmanship.
Speaking as the special guest, OSD, Department of Youth Resources & Sports, and Director, Sports, Super Masters Games & Sports Federation of India, Roko Angami, congratulated the organisers for bringing together officers and employees from various departments through sports.
He said that the tournament promotes friendship, mutual respect and better coordination among government employees. He added that sports provide an opportunity to step away from daily professional responsibilities, interact with colleagues and maintain physical and mental well-being.
Angami said that badminton requires discipline, physical fitness, concentration, quick decision-making and determination, qualities which are equally valuable in professional and personal life. He described the tournament as more than a competition, stating that it promotes unity, fellowship and healthy competition among different departments.
Sharing his personal experience, Angami said that football had played an important role in his life and encouraged people to take up sports regardless of age.
Speaking about the Masters Games, he said that it provides opportunities for individuals who have crossed their professional sporting years but continue to have the passion to compete. He encouraged veteran athletes to remain active and participate in sporting events at the national and international levels.
He also highlighted the efforts of the Government of Nagaland towards strengthening sports infrastructure in the State. He said that more than 30 futsal grounds and several artificial turf grounds have been developed, while more than 32 multipurpose halls have also been developed, with many more facilities under construction.
Angami further mentioned the Chief Minister’s initiative for the Advancement of Sportspersons, under which promising athletes would be supported in coaching, studies and equipment. He said that badminton is among the priority sports under the initiative.
Addressing the gathering on behalf of the District Administration, Kohima, Er. Seyiekhrietuo Solo, NCS, SDO (Civil), appreciated the IDBC for organising the tournament and bringing together officers and employees from different departments.
He said that such events provide an opportunity not only to compete but also to connect with colleagues and strengthen relationships across departments. He added that a healthy and positive relationship among government employees contributes to better coordination and more effective public service.
Delivering the vote of thanks, M. Rhovisie Nyuwi, IPS, expressed gratitude to the sponsors, participants, organisers, district administration, well-wishers and media fraternity for their support towards the successful conduct of the tournament.
He appreciated the IDBC for its efforts in coordinating the participation of various departments and encouraged everyone to continue supporting sports and taking part in such activities.

PEREN 12th INTER-DEPARTMENTAL TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED ON OCTOBER 7-9
Additional Deputy Commissioner & Convenor, 12th Inter-Departmental Tournament, Peren, D. Robin, has informed that the 12th Inter-Departmental Tournament, Peren, is scheduled to be held from 7th to 9th October 2026, at Jalukie, exclusively for employees of all Government Departments based/posted in Peren District.
The decision to conduct the tournament was taken during a meeting of the Organising Committee held on 5th September 2026, in the Office chamber of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Peren.
The tournament will feature competitions for both Men & Women in Badminton, Chess, Table Tennis, Carrom and Futsal. Participation in at least one discipline has been made mandatory for all Departments, while Departments in the outpost areas have also been requested to participate.
A registration fee of Rs. 500 per entry and Rs. 1,000 per team for Futsal will be charged from all participating Departments. The last date for registration has been fixed as 5th October 2026.
Cash prizes, along with medals and certificates, will be awarded to the winners and runners-up in the various categories.
All participating Departments have also been directed to submit a 3 x 4 feet flag bearing “GOVERNMENT OF NAGALAND” and the name of the Department with logo printed on it.
Departments failing to participate in the tournament will be imposed a penalty of Rs. 10,000. All participants will have to be properly geared with full playing kits, and no participants in the Badminton competition will be entertained without jerseys and non-marking shoes. While there is no limit on the number of teams participating in the competition from a Department, an individual can compete in only two categories of the Badminton discipline.
The Badminton Club, Jalukie will officiate all the matches and provide technical support. SDO PWD (R&B), Peren, Er. Asembe Mbungcha will facilitate the same.
Besides, anticipating the unfailing cooperation and support of all the Government Departments, the following Departments/Officials have been requested to undertake the work as specified: i) Executive Engineer, Power, Peren: Proper electrification of the Indoor Stadium and to detail field staff for duty during the period of competition; ii) Executive Engineer, PHED, Peren: Continuous water supply in the Indoor Stadium; iii) Chief Medical Officer, Peren: Providing first aid.
