The Inaugural Program of 72nd General Conference of Phom Laivangh Pangthai (PLP) was graced by MLA, A. Pongshi Phom as the special guest, held at Bautung Memorial Hall, Longleng on 13th January 2025.

In his speech Pongshi Phom said that Phoms have seen rapid change in every spheres of life, but still lacked behind with other tribes in many aspects. Thus, he challenged the younger generation to aim higher for quality education, and even bring laurels in central competitive exams. He also stressed on the need to find one’s gift and utilize it for a greater purpose.

The gathering was greeted by N. Dape Phom, President, Phom Laivangh Pangthai (PLP) while the other speakers of the program were Y.B. Angam Phom, President, Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) and Ainyu Phom, President, Phomla Hoichem. During the program, modern folk song was presented by Yongnyah Students’ Union. 

Later, while Inaugurating the Games and Sports program, Deputy Commissioner Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, said that education was not only about being successful in academics, but also in all round development of oneself. He said, such events organized by PLP after a gap of three (3) years was an opportunity for students to showcase their talents in various fields as people are born with different gifts; some to exalt in academics, some in games and sports, and vice versa. Therefore, he said that students should make proper use of such opportunity and explore their talents, and bring laurels to the community at large.

N. Chaushak Phom, Vice President, PLP greeted the gathering while T. Chingau Thaplen, Sports Secretary led the oath taking. Invocation for the Games & Sports program was pronounced by Anba, Pastor, Dunkhao Baptist Attoi and a special number was performed by Yingla D. Menhahu. The program was chaired by Along H. Phom and Kuplen Phom.

The invocation prayer for the general conference was pronounced by A Leitok, Pastor, Hukphang Baptist Attoi and the benediction prayer was led by Ayong Phom, Pastor, Leinak Baptist Attoi.
