The 74th Phom Day, a (Peace Day) marking the end of Head-Hunting Era and beginning of Peace and Harmony in Phom land was observed on 6th June 2026, at public ground, Longleng, with Deputy Commissioner Longleng, W. Manpai Phom as the special guest in the occasion. The celebration reaffirmed the Phom community’s commitment to preserving the practice and vision of Phom Day for future generations.
The special unfurled the Phom Day flag, which was followed by the presentation of the Phom Day Anthem, by the Medical Ward Fellowship. The special guest delivered the Phom day message and took salute from the parade contingents composed of the students from various Schools and Higher Secondary Schools under Longleng town, Scouts and Guides and Yingli College, Longleng.
The special guest in his address said the 74th Phom Day was celebrated, upholding the peace and carrying forward the vision of past leaders, as elders and community members gathered to mark the occasion observed annually by the Phom tribe.
The DC acknowledged that the program was held under the guidance of the Phom Day Commission and Phom People's Council, and recalled the comprehensive details of Phom Day shared in earlier speeches and urged attendees to remember its core significance of peace in Phom area and beyond.
The DC while emphasizing the need to keep in mind “what we are and who we are”, he advised the gathering to celebrate the day like our elders with a commitment. He highlighted that the purpose of Phom Day, as envisioned by past elders and visionary leaders, was to foster peace and harmony so that the community may receive blessings from Almighty God.
He reminded the gathering that peace in the current generation depends on individual’s conduct in all roles including government officials, public leaders and village functionaries.
“We all have to self-examine ourselves and eradicate our selfish interest but work for the common cause for our tribe, for our village, and for the common welfare of the people. Only then can ‘Peace’ arrive,” the DC stated. The special guest also presented the N.I Jamir,Academic Excellence Awards during the occasion.
Significance of Phom Day: My legacy was proposed by former president of PPC, P. PÜKYONG Phom, while the solidary message was delivered by the Commandant, 12th NAP (IR) Chingtok, Imtitoshi, which was followed by a peace folk fusion presented by Chingnyi N. Phom and Chingmei Phom.
Towards the Platinum: Peace, beneficiaries and the obligations was pronounced by Y. Nuklu Phom, which was followed by an affirmation of Phom Day Covenant by Longleng District Dobashis. A prayer of blessings was pronounced by Women Secretary PBCA, Angbhenla.
Earlier, the programme commenced with an invocation prayer pronounced by Chaplin Sangtam Baptist Church Longleng, followed by a welcome address by the President of PPC, Y. B. Angam, and the programme was chaired by Yathanla and Phakmei.
Highlights of the daylong celebration includes the cultural troops from Hukphang Bühü Longleng and Oushok Khongmeila.
After the conclusion of the event, a penalty shoot-out and a volleyball ball Exhibition match was organised by the organizing committee.
