Advisor for School Education and the State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, who had earlier assumed responsibility for overseeing the ongoing work at the KMC dumping site at Dzürüzou, Meriema, Kohima under SBM (U)-2.0, Dumpsite Remediation Acceleration Programme (DRAP) for legacy waste remediation, visited the site on 3rd February 2026 with the Mission Director, SBM (Urban) Kezhochole Rhetso, and officials of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC).

The Mission Director, SBM 2.0, and KMC officials highlighted the works initiated under the programme to make Kohima a dumpsite-free city, noting that the work is to be completed within the timeline set by the Ministry.

Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome urged the concerned officials to expedite the ongoing works and ensure that the remediation process is completed within the stipulated timeline. He further appealed to the general public to actively cooperate by adopting proper waste management practices, particularly by practising waste segregation at the household level.

He emphasized that segregation of waste into biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and hazardous categories is essential for effective waste collection and scientific disposal, adding that public participation and responsible disposal habits are key to maintaining cleanliness and improving overall environmental sustainability.
