It has been reported by the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Tseminyu that the tissue samples collected from Tseminyu Village has been found positive for African Swine Fever in the laboratory test conducted at Animal Health Care, the area has been declared as "Infected Zone". Several reports of Pigs mortality around Tseminyu have also been reported to the Veterinary Hospital, Tseminyu.
The DC Tseminyu, Japheth Woch informed that African Swine Fever is a highly contagious viral disease affecting Pigs and immediate preventive and containment measures are necessary to prevent further spread of the disease, as per the relevant provisions.
The following restrictions containment measures are imposed in Tseminyu Village with immediate effect and until further orders. The area within One kilometre radius from Tseminyu Village is declared as "Infected Zone". DC directed the areas extending up to Nine Kilometres outside the infected Zone shall be treated as "Surveillance Zone, "DC advised the public to obtain from the purchase, sale and consumption of pork and pork products within the infected Zone and adjoining or contiguous areas, slaughtering, sale purchase and transport of Pigs and pork products within the affected areas is strictly prohibited. Disposal of dead Pigs shall be carried out only through deep burial or incineration in accordance with approved bio-security and sanitary protocols.
The DC also instructed the Office of CVO Tseminyu to implement all necessary surveillance, quarantine, containment, sanitization and disease control measures as per Government guidelines and SOPs.
DC advised the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any unusual sickness, suspected infection, abnormal behaviour or sudden death of Pigs to the nearest veterinary centre or Hospital or the Office of the CVO Tseminyu. DC stated that in the interest of public safety, Animal Health and disease containment shall come in to force with immediate effect until further order.
