Awareness campaign program on Prevention of Child Marriage on account of Akshay Tritiya with Stakeholders and Apex Organisation organised by District Administration and Mission Shakti and Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Phek district, was held on 2nd May 2025 at Phek Town Hall, Phek. 

Delivering a keynote address, Deputy Commissioner, Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, said that child marriage needs to be checked and stopped as there are various negative aspects in early marriage, such as mental, physical, spiritual problems and financial aspects as well. DC also reiterated and discouraged practices of the old system of marriage where people got married without regards for his/her ages. However, Rhosietho Ngouri said that since marriage laws have been passed in Parliament, violators will face consequences as per the law. 

DC also informed that a Marriage Certificate can be obtained from ADC Phek for those who need it. 

Resource person, Vethothi Vero as Retainer Lawyer, Phek DLSA, spoke on the topic 'Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006'. He informed that the intention of the Act was to prohibit Solemnisation of Child Marriage and the qualifying age of Male and Female is 21 and 18 respectively.

In her speech, Zhonielu Puro, President of Chakhesang Mothers' Association appreciated for organising the program, and also commented on the new marriage law passed by the government. She encouraged the people to adhere to the new marriage law in line with the advancing society. 

Rev. Thepuchiyi Khusoh, Pastor, Phek Town Baptist Church, pronounced the invocation prayer at the program. 

Program was chaired by Velenuo K. Thisa, District Mission Coordinator, SANKALP- District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Phek.
