Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, Niuland organised a One-day Awareness Programme on Child Rights & Child Protection on 18th September 2025 at Niuland Town Council Hall.

Chairman of NSCPCR, Alun Hangsing, while delivering the keynote address highlighted the role and functions of the NSCPCR. He mentioned that countries that have given more importance to children care are most advanced countries in the world citing the example of European countries.

Deputy Commissioner, Niuland, Sara S Jamir, in her short speech emphasised that Child labour (Children under the age of 14 years) and Child marriage (Women below 18 years and 21 years for men) should be strictly prohibited and urged the GBs, Church Leaders and Public leaders to sensitise in their respective areas to discourage such practices.

Legal Consultant, NSCPCR, Lichani Murry, while delivering the message on Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and Adoption Act, emphasised on legal aspects on child care and protection, rehabilitation and child adoption criteria.

Member, NSCPCR, Aying Wangsha, in her speech focused on the Rights of Children with regards to Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009. 

Member, NSCPCR, Akumla Longchari, also spoke on the topic Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012(POCSO) Act & Safe guarding the rights of the trafficked victim.

A brief report on child related cases in the district was presented by DCPO Niuland, Kughakali Achumi.

The programme was chaired by Amongla, Project Coordinator (CHL) while Chairman, Child Welfare Committee Niuland, Apolo, delivered the vote of thanks.
