Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, was officially inducted as the new President of the Kohima District Bharat Scouts & Guides (BS&G) in a ceremony held at the DC Office, Kohima on 15th May 2025.
In his address, DC Buchem reflected on his formative years as a scout from Class 8 to 10, describing the journey as an "emotional and enriching experience." He lauded the noble mission of the BS&G, emphasizing its role in instilling values, civic sense, and life skills in the youth. “Kohima district, established in 1870, carries a rich legacy. As the first district, we must lead by example and inspire others,” he said. He encouraged everyone to begin change from their own homes, adding, “The best teachers can be our students and children—teach them young.”
State Organising Commissioner (Guide) Vimezhonu delivered a comprehensive overview of Scouting and Guiding, explaining it as a voluntary organization that promotes unity, discipline, and life skills among youth. She elaborated on the principles and objectives of BS&G, its structure, and the Scout/Guide Law.
Earlier, the event commenced with a prayer by District Education Officer (DEO) Kohima, Emilo Patton, invoking God's blessings. An introductory session followed.
State Secretary of NSBSG, Thepfuzakie Angami, chaired the event and spoke on the organizational hierarchy of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts & Guides (NSBSG). He also moderated the discussions. Meanwhile, State Treasurer Neibou Sekhose shared his personal testimony, highlighting the positive impact of the movement.
