A Blood Storage Unit was inaugurated at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital (DMMDH), Wokha, on March 17, 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening healthcare services in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar, IAS, graced the occasion as Special Guest. In his remarks, he acknowledged the efforts and initiatives of Medical Superintendent, DMMDH Wokha, Dr. Mhonchan N. Kithan, and his team for establishing this vital facility. He assured continued assistance and cooperation from the district administration, while emphasizing the importance of awareness creation and encouraging citizens, especially young people, to actively participate in blood donation. He noted that the unit would enhance the efficiency of hospital functioning and improve patient care.
Delivering the keynote address, Pathologist, Dr. Nzanthung Lotha highlighted the importance of blood donation, stressing its role not only in saving lives but also in contributing to physical and emotional well-being. He urged the youth of Wokha to come forward in the spirit of service and humanity.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Medical Superintendent, DMMDH Wokha, Dr. Mhonchan N. Kithan. The Blood Storage Unit has a capacity of 50 units with a storage period of 35 days. The first donors to the newly inaugurated unit were Zubemo Ngullie and Chijanthung Tungoe, setting an example for others to follow.
The establishment of the Blood Storage Unit is expected to play a crucial role in meeting emergency needs, ensuring timely availability of blood, and strengthening healthcare delivery in Wokha district.
