Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Vineet Kumar IAS informs all concerned that, as per report received from Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Wokha that there has been cases of mortality in pigs in the Doyang Right Bank Farm area under Wokha district due to African Swine Fever (ASF).
The ASF is a contagious disease in pigs with high mortality which causes huge economic loses, and therefore, requires high vigilance and containment.
Therefore, under Section 6(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infection and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act 2009, in order to contain the outbreak of the disease the following advisory measures for containment of the disease are to be enforced.
1. Restriction of movement of pigs/pork in the infected zone (1 Km radius of the area)
2. Prohibition of slaughtering/sale of pigs/pork in the infected zone.
3. Closely monitoring the surveillance zone (9 Km outside the infected zone)
4. Proper disposal of dead animals by deep burial or incineration within the infected zone.
5. All village councils are advised to be vigilant and report any suspected cases of ASF to the nearest Veterinary Office/Officer.
