The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) for February 2026 was held at the DC's Conference Hall, Zunheboto on 18th July 2026, under the chairmanship of DPDB Chairman and Advisor for Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, and Chairman of the Urban Local Bodies and Village Council Committee, Government of Nagaland, K. Tokugha Sukhalu, IAS (Retd.).
Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj, IAS, delivered the welcome address and greeted the members. The house first reviewed and discussed the action taken on the resolutions and agendas of the previous meeting.
Several new agendas were then taken up for deliberation. Divisional Forest Officer Obed Bohovi Swu, SFS, proposed two agendas: (i) the implementation of a Green Campus Initiative in Zunheboto as a pilot project under the Community Social Responsibility (ComSR) initiative, and (ii) the endorsement of the Community Social Responsibility (ComSR) model by the DPDB. The proposals were discussed by the members for further consideration.
ADC Akuluto, Tiayanger Jamir, NCS, proposed the establishment of a Fire and Emergency Services Station at Akuluto. He highlighted the urgent need for a fire station in the subdivision to ensure prompt emergency response and safeguard lives and property. DC Dharam Raj, IAS, also supplemented the proposal by emphasizing the importance of setting up the fire station considering the growing developmental activities in the area.
The Board also discussed a proposal for the setting up of a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) office under the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) at Satakha.
Another agenda recommended the construction of a permanent District Welfare Office in Zunheboto, noting that the department has been functioning from a rented building for several years.
The meeting further deliberated on proposals seeking grant-in-aid for two private schools for infrastructure development and improvement of teaching and learning facilities: Coverning kids Academy South P, Zunheboto for classroom renovation and procurement of teaching and learning materials. Mount View School, Suruhuto for infrastructure development.
During the discussion, the DC enquired whether the schools were implementing the mandatory 25% reservation for children from Economically Weaker Sections under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009. He stressed the importance of ensuring access to quality education for poor and needy students.
The Board also discussed the proposal to organize the annual Inter-Departmental Tournament 2026, which is scheduled to be held in the month of September.
During the meeting, Chairman K. Tokugha Sukhalu expressed concern over reports of swine flu in some villages of the district. He sought an update from the District Veterinary Office and directed the department to intensify awareness campaigns and take necessary preventive measures to contain the spread of the disease.
The meeting concluded with a presentation by Hovishe Chophy, District Programme Officer under the Chief Medical Officer, Zunheboto, who briefed the members on departmental activities and relevant health programmes.
