Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio joined the 25th death anniversary of late Vamuzo (former Chief Minister of Nagaland 19.06.1990 – 02.04.1992) organised by the Vamuzo Memorial Trust and Chozuba Range Public Organisation, remembering and celebration his life and contribution at local ground, Yorüba village, Phek, some 70 km away from state capital Kohima, on 22nd March 2025.
Dr. Neiphiu Rio said he knew Vamuzo from 1974 when he himself was a youth leader. He said that he was a man with great integrity and had a peaceful atmosphere to work with him. He added that Vamuzo’s legacy is freshly alive through the VDB and Compact Area Development, mainly for the economically weaker section. He stated that Vamuzo was a visionary leader with honesty principles. He called on Sano Vamuzo (wife of lt. Vamuzo) and her family continue to contribute to the society even in days to come. The Chief Minister appealed to the gathering to uphold the uniqueness of the state.
Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü, former Chief Minister of Nagaland who also spoke on the occasion asked the people to remember good things Vamuzo had done and urged the people to do good things in remembrace of Vamuzo.
I. Imkong, former minister who also spoke, called Vamuzo a decisive leader with resourceful qualities. He added that the Hotel Japfü project was initiated and materialised during Vamuzo’s tenure. MLA, Achumbemo Kikon also spoke on the occasion. Zapra Chakhesang, former Chairman of Nagaland Public Service Commission presented a brief initiative and achievement of Vamuzo’s contribution to the state.
Sano Vamuzo (wife of lt. Vamuzo) expressed gratitude for the time she had with her late husband, Vamuzo. She thanked everyone who continues to uphold in his memory. Speeches were also delivered by Vezϋhϋ Keyho, president of CPO; Niketu Iralu, social activist and Mϋdihi Lohe, Head GB of Yorϋba.
Nibano V. Swüro, daughter of Vamuzo, presented a song entitled "Puo Ciekhrie Zo Rei Mehoya" which was sung at his funeral. Other highlights of the programme included special presentations by Thϋpukha Sapu, Yorϋbami Welfare Organisation Kohima and Yorϋbami Uzuneko. Thenucho Tϋnyi, Chairman of Vamuzo Memorial Trust presided over the programme.
The death anniversary programme was attended by Advisor of School Education & SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome; Advisor for New & Renewable Energy and NSDMA, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, government officials, public leaders and citizens from neighbouring villages.
