The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Office, Dimapur, announced the release of the Draft Photo Electoral Roll for the 2025 electoral cycle, with 1st January 2025, as the qualifying date. The publication event took place in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on 29th October, 2024, and was attended by representatives from various political parties and local leaders.
Assistant Election Officer Toshimongba Longchar provided key statistics during the event. He reported that Dimapur’s three Assembly constituencies — Dimapur-I, Dimapur-II, and Dimapur-III — saw 2,969 new inclusions and 1,217 deletions in the current draft roll compared to the previous version. This update marks an increase of 1.45% in the electoral count. The number of electors as of March stood at 120,749, while the current draft roll, effective from 1st January2024, includes 122,501 electors.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, who chaired the program, highlighted the schedule for claims and objections. He said citizens can file claims and objections from 29thOctober 2024 (Tuesday) to 28thNovember 2024 (Thursday). The final electoral roll is slated for release on 10thJanuary 2025.
Chang further explained that the enrolment qualifying dates occur quarterly: January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1 and Special enrolment campaign drives are scheduled at polling stations on 8th-9thNovember and 22nd – 23rdNovember 2024, to facilitate voter registration. He said that the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will oversee these campaigns at designated polling stations across the constituencies.
Chang urged political parties, local heads, and colony chairpersons to spread awareness of the enrolment campaign dates within their respective communities. He also encouraged political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents to identify and assist eligible citizens in enrolling, assuring them of full support from the Election Office. He said that the office is available for assistance and to approach them without any hesitation. He further informed that the list of BLOs is accessible on the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) portal. Copies of the draft electoral roll were distributed to the attendees.
The program was attended by representatives of registered political parties.
