Duncan Bosti, one of the prominent localities in Dimapur, celebrated its 75th Anniversary under the theme “75 Years of Community, Unity & Legacy” at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo (DABA), Duncan Bosti, Dimapur on 11th January, 2025.
The event was graced by Yanthungo Patton, Deputy Chief Minister, Home and Border Affairs, as the Special Guest, and Imkong L. Imchen, Advisor I&PR, Soil and Water Conservation, along with R. H. Duncan Lyngdoh, Retired Professor, North-Eastern Hill University, as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Yanthungo Patton congratulated the residents of Duncan Bosti for their unity and progress over the years. He urged the community to continue fostering peace and inclusivity while striving for further development. He emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy built over the last 75 years and passing it on to future generations. He also conveyed his wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year.
Highlighting the issue of factions in Nagaland, Patton mentioned that there are currently 28 underground groups, out of which only five are under a ceasefire agreement. He urged these factions to unite and work towards achieving a long-awaited Naga solution. He emphasized that with eight legislative parties and no opposition in the state Assembly all 60 members are consistently appealing to the factions to come together for the greater good of Nagaland.
Addressing the rampant issues of taxation and extortion, Patton noted the financial burden on the people, stating that it is impractical to pay taxes to multiple factions. He suggested that only one unified tax should be paid and appealed to the public, including the settlers of Duncan Bosti to take a stand and urge the factions to unify.
Patton emphasized the collective hope and vision of Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio and the state legislators to achieve a long-lasting Naga solution. He highlighted their unified efforts in working closely with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the Central government to bring about a resolution that fulfils the aspirations of the people. Patton reiterated the importance of collaboration and dialogue to address the longstanding issues and pave the way for peace and progress in Nagaland.
Patton praised the unity and respect that Duncan Bosti has earned over the years, attributing it to the sacrifices made by the elders. He acknowledged the diversity of the community, with settlers from mixed tribes living harmoniously, setting an example for others.
He also encouraged the students of Duncan Bosti to work hard in their studies and aspire to become successful officers, contributing to the progress of the colony and the state.
Imkong L. Imchen, in his address, highlighted the significance of Duncan Bosti as a model community and praised the resilience and hard work of its residents and delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on the rich history, resilience, and contributions of Duncan Bosti. He highlighted the community’s role in fostering unity, cultural heritage, and progress over the decades.
"Seventy-five years is a testament to the enduring spirit of the people of Duncan Bosti. This community stands as a beacon of strength and tradition, rooted in the values of harmony and collaboration," Imchen said.
Imchen emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity while embracing change. "As we celebrate this historic occasion, let us also look to the future with hope and determination, ensuring that Duncan Bosti continues to thrive for generations to come. He also noted how tribalism fosters division and undermines collective growth. "Tribalism is a worrying trend that weakens the social fabric of our society. We must rise above it and work together for a shared future," he stated.
Imchen called on leaders and citizens to reject tribalistic tendencies and embrace harmony, urging the community to prioritize unity over division. His remarks were met with widespread support from the audience.
R. H. Duncan Lyngdoh expressed his appreciation for the unity and vision of the community, encouraging the younger generation to build upon the foundation laid by their predecessors. Lyngdoh recounted the vision and determination of the founders who laid the foundation for what has become a vibrant and thriving community. "Duncan Bosti was born out of a shared dream—of building a place rooted in unity, respect, and progress. Its creation symbolizes the hard work and dedication of our ancestors, who faced challenges with courage and determination," Lyngdoh stated. He elaborated on the history of the settlement, tracing its origins to a time when a handful of families came together to build a community based on cooperation and mutual support. Over the years, Duncan Bosti has grown into a symbol of resilience and harmony, preserving its cultural heritage while embracing modern development.
Lyngdoh urged the current generation to honor this legacy by continuing to work toward unity and progress. "As we celebrate this milestone, let us remember our roots and the values that have brought us this far. Duncan Bosti’s story is a testament to what we can achieve together," he concluded.
Earlier, the program commenced with a silent tribute to departed souls, followed by an invocation by Dr. Alem, Associate Pastor of Sangtam Baptist Church Duncan. W. Yanthan, Chairman of Duncan Bosti Council, delivered the introductory statement, highlighting the locality’s journey since its inception in 1950. Rev. Kika Jamir of DABA led a prayer for the 75th Anniversary.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled by the Special Guest, Yanthungo Patton, to mark this historic milestone. The celebration also featured a special number by local groups Melophilia and Longrotchü, alongside the release of a souvenir documenting the locality's legacy. The program featured traditional dances, cultural performances, and an exhibition showcasing the evolution of Duncan Bosti over the years. Local leaders also paid tribute to the elders and founders who laid the foundation for the community's growth and prosperity.
Jethro Merry, the Convenor, expressed gratitude on behalf of the organizing committee, and the event concluded with a benediction by Pastor, Chenithung Yanthan of Full Gospel A.G. Church, followed by a grand celebration feast.
Later in the day Dy. CM accompanied by advisors visited CNTC Office Duncan Dimapur.
