The Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, visited the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), Kohima on 18th June 2026 and reviewed the progress of the institution, while interacting with the faculty, staff, students and stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor described NIMSR as a significant milestone in the history of Nagaland and the State's first medical college, reflecting the collective aspiration to strengthen healthcare, medical education and research. He expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved since the commencement of the MBBS programme in 2023 and commended the institution for its steady growth.

The Governor noted that NIMSR has established modern academic facilities, including smart lecture theatres, a well-equipped central library, advanced skill and communication laboratories, and has fostered a strong research culture through multiple extramural projects. He appreciated initiatives such as the Family Adoption Programme, community health outreach activities, the mentor-mentee system and the institution's focus on holistic student development, stating that these efforts are helping produce competent and compassionate healthcare professionals.

The Governor also lauded the ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, including the upcoming operationalisation of the NIMSR Hospital and the proposed 400-bedded tertiary care centre. He observed that these developments would significantly enhance the State's capacity in patient care, medical teaching and research.

The Governor further appreciated the establishment of an Indigenous Herbal Garden and the institution's efforts to promote innovation through artificial intelligence and digital technologies. He remarked that NIMSR's vision of extending quality healthcare services to the last village and the last person in need was both commendable and inspiring.

Encouraging all stakeholders to continue working with dedication, professionalism and a spirit of service, the Governor said that the future of healthcare in Nagaland depends greatly on institutions such as NIMSR.
