The Sevic Senior Citizens Home in Wokha was inaugurated virtually by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, from New Delhi on 2nd May 2025, witnessing simultaneous inaugurations in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The event marked the launch of senior citizen welfare facilities across five states, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing elderly care infrastructure nationwide. This initiative was undertaken by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GoI.
During the inaugural event, the President launched the Senior Citizen Welfare Portal, aimed at enhancing accessibility to various welfare schemes and support systems for the elderly. Following the portal launch, five Old Age Homes were inaugurated remotely, signifying a major step toward strengthening elderly care infrastructure across different states.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Brahma Kumaris, reinforcing collaborative efforts in the field of senior citizen welfare and empowerment. This agreement is expected to facilitate various programs focusing on well-being, moral support, and social engagement for elderly individuals.
As part of the welfare measures, the President also distributed Assisted Living Devices to senior citizens under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for elderly individuals by providing essential devices to aid mobility and daily activities.
The event also featured the administration of a pledge and a speech delivered by Dr. Viendra Kumar from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, reaffirming the government's commitment to elderly welfare and inclusive development. The proceedings began with a welcome speech by Amit Yadav, Secretary of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, who highlighted the importance of this initiative in addressing the needs of senior citizens.
The virtual inauguration of Sevic Senior Citizens Home in Wokha stands as a significant milestone in elderly care and social welfare, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for senior citizens across the country.
