International day of persons with disabilities 2024 was celebrated at Kisama, on 3rd December 2024 on the theme, ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’

Special guest, MLA & Advisor, Social Welfare, Wangpang Konyak expressed that it was a privilege to be here in the Disability Pride Fair 2024, organized by the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities together with the Department of Social Welfare. He expressed his gratitude for observing and organising this remarkable event, commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities which also coincides with the Hornbill festival.

He said that the theme for this year, "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future," is a powerful reminder of the vital role played by persons with disabilities or rather special abilities in shaping our communities. Leadership is not defined by ability but by vision, determination, and the courage to inspire change and persons with special abilities exemplify all of these qualities and more, he added.

He mentioned that inclusive and sustainable future requires every voice to be heard and every perspective to be valued, persons with special abilities bring unique insights and lived experiences that is indispensable in building stronger and more resilient societies. He also said that boosting their leadership means not only recognizing their contributions but actively creating opportunities for them to lead, innovate, and influence.

He also cited that Hokato Sema, winning Bronze medal at Paris 2024 Paralympics has not only brought laurel to Nagaland and India but also inspired us all. His medal is a symbol of what can be achieved when talent meets opportunity and we are committed to fostering an environment where such talents can flourish.

He stated that the State government commits in removing barriers-physical, social, and institutional that hinders progress toward inclusion which means designing policies, programs, and spaces that prioritize accessibility and equity and foster environments where persons with special abilities can excel as leaders in every field, be it governance, education, business, or society. He said that this event is a celebration of resilience, creativity, and potential. It is also a call to action and as policymakers, community members, and fellow human, we should ensure that inclusion is not just a vision but a reality.

He also assured his support in addressing the issues and facilitating various activities of the commission.

Meanwhile the Advisor was awe struck at the art and talent of the specially abled artist, Imlisunep who paints extraordinary pictures using his mouth.

In the programme, Anguzo Kense from Tabitha Enabling Academy presented, ‘I know a place’, Jo- foundation Inclusive school presented ‘The lion sleeps tonight’ and Vimethanuo presented the National Anthem.
