The international day of persons with disabilities was observed in Mokokchung with the theme  “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an inclusive and Sustainable Future,” organized by the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), Mokokchung, and the Mokokchung District Disabled Forum (MDDF), the programme was held at Opangkong Salang, Mokokchung on 3rd December 2024, with Maong Jamir, Secretary of Finance and Property, ABAM as the theme speaker

While addressing the gathering Maong Jamir highlighted the societal neglect of PWDs in comparison to other nations where they are celebrated as a blessing. He called for natural and positive acceptance of PWDs and quoted Biblical references to stress the transformative power of achieving greatness despite challenges. Churches were urged to undertake missions focusing on empowering PWDs. He encouraged the gathering to focus on abilities not on monetary power.

During the programme, short speeches were delivered by Temsuchuba, SDO (C), Mokokchung, Imtipokyim, General Secretary, Ao senden, I Lipok Jamir, President, Mokokchung Ao Officers Telongjem and Vesupra Kezo, Sr. SP Mokokchung. The President of MDDF informed that aides and benefits for all the PWDs will be provided from 17th to 19th February 2025. He reminded all the PWDs to bring along UDID cards to avail the benefits.

The programme was chaired by Asanaro Kichu, Area coordinator, NSRLM, Mokokchung, while the invocation and benediction prayers were proposed by Lanukumzuk, Pastor, Khar Baptist Church and Benjongsenla, APW Chuchuyimpang Baptist Church respectively. A special song was also presented by the PWDs, Opangtemla and special prayer for PWDs by Kikum Longkumer, Pastor, Kumlong Baptist Church.

Welcome address was commenced by Moatoshi, Assistant District Programme Manager NSRLM, Mokokchung while significance of the day was outlined by Arenlila Jamir, Advisor, MDDF.
