International day of the Girl child was observed with EAC Kiphire, Takatemjen Pongon as the special guest at DPDB hall, Kiphire on 3rd October 2024. 

The Programme was organized by District Administration, District Hub for empowerment of women (DHEW), & Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), Kiphire under the theme - "Girls' vision for future." 

EAC, Takatemjen Pongon in his address informed that a weeklong International Day of the Girl Child was envisioned for better future of girl child. He said that the Government has provided different platforms and amenities, to urge and to motivate a girl to become a better and responsible person in the family and society.

Pongon said that District hub for empowerment of women, Sakhi One Stop Centre has been created for support and to redress for women in the cases of various kinds of harassment and abuse.

"POSH Act given by the Government is to prevent sexual harassment such as - objectifying, passing remarks or obscenities" he said.

He also informed the gathering on Internal Complaint Committee being set up in every department, and 'Local Complaint Committee' in the District, with the Deputy Commissioner as the chairperson, to facilitate any aggrieved women to file a complaint on line through a SHE- Box portal.

Earlier, the Programme started with an invocation prayer by Viliho Awomi, District mission coordinator (DHEW). And Commemorating the day, a competition on 'extempore speech', and Slogan Writing' was organized, where students from various schools under Kiphire town participated

The programme was led by Limitsung Sangtam, Specialist in Financial Literacy (DHEW).
