International Women’s Day was celebrated at Mhainamtsi Village, Peren on 9th March 2026 under the theme “Rights, Justice, Action: For All Women and Girls.” The programme was organized by Oasis Federation Jalukie Block in collaboration with NSRLM, Mission Shakti Peren, Mission Vatsalya Peren, Peren District Legal Services Authority and 9th Assam Rifles Jalukie.
Deputy Commissioner, Peren, Hiazu Meru, attending the programme as the special guest, in his address urged women to be aware of and understand the rights provided to them by the government and to take proactive steps towards ensuring justice and equality. He emphasized the importance of empowering women and ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls in the society, while calling upon all present to work collectively towards the welfare and advancement of women.
Stating that awareness and knowledge of one’s rights are key components of empowerment, he encouraged the women attending the programme to make use of the opportunities and support systems available to them. Referring to the stalls set up by Peren District Legal Services Authority, Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission, Mission Shakti, Mission Vatsalya, CHILDLINE 1098 at the venue, he stated that the stalls were arranged to disseminate information on legal rights, government schemes and livelihood opportunities for women. He further encouraged the participants to visit the stalls, interact with the officials and gain a better understanding of the services and schemes meant for their welfare and empowerment.
Associate Professor, Peren Government College, Sazutlak Domta, speaking as the resource person, elaborated on the theme “Rights, Justice, Action: For All Women and Girls.” She highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and safeguarding women’s rights, noting that women in a patriarchal society often do not enjoy equal rights and opportunities. She also spoke on the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution and emphasized the need to ensure equal rights for women and girls in all spheres of life.
Stressing the importance of promoting gender equality, she encouraged women to be aware of their rights and to stand up against injustice, discrimination and domestic violence. She further stated that women play a vital role in shaping society and urged them to instill values of equality and respect for women’s rights in their children, while encouraging women to overcome fear and hesitation and raise their voices confidently to bring about positive change in society.
The programme was chaired by Area Coordinator, Farm Livelihoods, NSRLM, Reluibamle, while President, Oasis Federation, Jalukie Block Joysy Rongmei delivered the welcome address and highlighted the significance of the day and the need to uphold the rights and dignity of women and girls. Major, 9th Assam Rifles Jalukie, Anupam Mishra also delivered a short speech.
The programme also featured a special melody presented by William from Samziuram Village. As part of the celebration, the final match of the SHGs volleyball tournament was witnessed between Jalukie Zangdi and Jalukie Kam.
District Coordinator Child Helpline, DCPU, Ibamsile Dwaswang delivered the vote of thanks.
