As part of the weeklong celebration of World Environment Day 2026, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) conducted a plantation drive at the Kohima Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plant, Lerie, on June 6, 2026.

The programme was organized in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under the theme, "A Global Call for Climate Action."

Councillors participated in the plantation activity to promote environmental conservation and sustainable development.

During the visit, the councillors also toured the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Plant to gain firsthand experience of the on-ground implementation of solid waste management practices and to better understand the city's waste processing and resource recovery mechanisms.
