The Longleng District Sports Council held its induction programme of Phom Sports Association and its Federating Units on 16t May 2026, with MLA, A. Pongshi Phom, who graced the occasion as the special guest at VCC & VDB hall Longleng.
In his keynote address, the Deputy Commissioner and chairman Longleng District Sports Council, W. Manpai Phom NCS, said Longleng district is set to strengthen its sports framework with the formation of four Area Sports Associations under the Longleng District Sports Association (LDSA). He said that the district has lagged behind others in sports activities due to the long absence of a dedicated apex body and discipline-specific organisations for promotion and technical support.
After several rounds of discussions with members of the Longleng District Sports Association and in coordination with various apex bodies, it was decided to establish a structured association for better functioning and coordination.
Accordingly, four federating Area Sports Associations have been constituted: Shakshi Area Sports Association, Longleng ASA, Yongyah ASA, and Tamlu ASA, with their executives and organisational structures put in place.
He also stated that this is the first time such bodies are being formed under the guidance of the Longleng District Sports Association, and that all sporting activities and achievements in the district will function under its banner.
The special guest, MLA, A. Pongshi Phom, in his address said the formation of the Phom Sports Association (PSA) has been the genuine desire of Phom people for a very long time. He therefore, congratulates the Deputy Commissioner who is also the Chairman of Longleng District Sports Council, under whose leadership the formation of the Phom Sports Association became a reality. He also congratulated all those leaders and officers who had made immense contribution and sacrifices for this association, and extended his best wishes to all the office bearers of the Phom Sports Association and its Federating Units.
He believed that the formation of this association was initiated with the due realization of the importance of sports, therefore, he emphasized wholeheartedly in building a strong foundation at the grassroots level. Exhorting that the progress and survival of the association demands on our sincere efforts, he especially urged the office bearers to devote their time and energy for the association to grow.
Asserting that the discouraging factors that are plaguing the healthy growth and progress of our people are jealousy, biasness and favouritism. He therefore, appealed to do away with these challenges while making induction of office bearers or players.
He also advised the youths to give utmost importance to physical health and discipline lifestyle abstaining from substance abuse. He further called upon the gathering to stand united, and to make a strong resolution with commitment to achieve greater aims and objectives of the association.

The induction prayer was pronounced by Executive Secretary (PBCA), N. Tialemba Phom.
The new office bearers of Phom Area Sports Association (PSA) were also felicitated during the programme. Short speech were also delivered by, the new Presented Phom Sports Association and the President PPC, Y. B. Angam. Lichei Y. Phom enthralled the programme with a special song called You Raise Me Up. The programme was chaired by District Sports Officer Longleng, Kenongoto Thokhwe, where he also said the closing remarks. During the induction prayer was pronounced by Executive Secretary PBCA, N. Tialemba Phom.
