In observance of World No Drug Day 2026, a massive youth awareness rally and wellness programme was held in Mokokchung on June 30. The event was organized by the Rajyoga Education & Research Foundation (RERF), a sister organization of the Brahma Kumaris, in collaboration with the 12 Assam Rifles under the theme, "Drug Abuse Prevention & Value-based Living."
The formal programme commenced at the Assam Rifles Ground, Mokokchung. Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his speech, the DC expressed his gratitude to the Brahma Kumaris and 12 Assam Rifles for coordinating and organizing the event, noting its high relevance to the district and its alignment with the Government of India's Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Highlighting the severe medical and social impacts of substance abuse, the Deputy Commissioner stressed that law enforcement agencies alone cannot eliminate the drug menace. He issued a strong call for a collective effort involving families, educational institutions, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to reduce the demand for drugs through value-based education.
During the programme, Lt. Col. Surender Singh also spoke on the destructive impact of drugs on families, local society, and the nation as a whole. Additionally, Dr. Swapan Gupta, a renowned senior neurologist and narcotics specialist from New Delhi, shared critical insights into the medical and psychological trauma caused by substance abuse. Before the conclusion of the formal assembly, all participants collectively took the Drug-Free Pledge.
Following the introductory session, the awareness rally was officially flagged off by DC Ajit Kumar Verma from the Assam Rifles Ground. Participants marched through the heart of the town, culminating at the Police Point near the Ao Baptist Church, Mokokchung. The rally successfully sent a strong, visible message against substance abuse while promoting healthy, value-based lifestyles among local citizens.
