In view of the incessant rain fall across Mon District, multiple Landslide struck various parts of Mon Town on 19th July 2026. Walo ward below 42 AR Camp was severely affected and rescue operations were immediately launch, compromising of DEF Mon, SDRF Mon, 42 AR Mon, District Administration and civil societies.

According to OC Mon Police station, more than 10 house were washed away and several other houses were affected, which claimed several casualties and injuries among residents.

The rescue team recovered the bodies of 4 (four) deceased, identified as Toithron, F/37 years of Chenwetnyu village; Tingyuh, M/ 16 years of Oting village; Thankhan, F/48 years of Oting village; Kenlong M/ 33 years of Pongkong village, all were residents of Defence Colony, Walo Ward. Search and rescue operations are still under way.

District Administration Mon, informed, all residents living in landslide-prone areas, steep slopes, riverbanks, and other vulnerable risk zones to evacuate immediately to a safer location as a precautionary measure. Residents have also been advised not to remain in or return to unsafe areas until further notice from the competent authorities.

The public has further been also advised to:

1. Stay alert and follow updates issued by the District Administration and DDMA.

2. Avoid unnecessary travel, especially through landslide-prone roads and vulnerable areas.
