The Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB), in collaboration with the Tuensang Forest Division and Life Care Society, observed the International Day for Biological Diversity 2025 under the global theme "Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development." The program was held at CBLT Hall, Tuensang Town on 22 May 2025 and witnessed enthusiastic participation from a wide spectrum of society.

The event drew a large gathering, including dignitaries, officials, civil society members, students, and representatives from Village Councils, and Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs).

Addressing on the event, Chief Conservator of Forests (EBR) and Member Secretary, NSBB, Supongnukshi, IFS emphasized the importance of identifying and documenting species of birds, medicinal plants, and insects, highlighting that community-based knowledge and written records would serve as invaluable resources for long-term biodiversity conservation. He also lauded the exceptional functioning of KFW villages in Tuensang District.

Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rusta also addressed the gathering. She stressed that sustainable development plays a crucial role in enhancing biodiversity and called for collective efforts in this direction.

Short speeches were delivered by Superintendent of Police, Tuensang, Longpoksang Lemtur who emphasized the need to live in harmony with nature and addressed issues related to biodiversity degradation.

Executive Chairman of CKS, W. Chingmak expressed gratitude to organizers for organizing the event. He remarked that forests are not merely about flora and fauna but about maintaining a sustainable biodiversity balance. Each speaker highlighted the importance of conserving biodiversity in alignment with sustainable development goals.

To mark the occasion, various competitions were organized for students in the categories of Elocution (Poem Recitation), Painting, and Essay Writing. Participants from multiple schools across Tuensang Town showcased their creativity, bringing in positive competition and awareness.

The program was chaired by Imtimar Walling, Range Officer, Noklak Range, while the welcome address was delivered by Samom Khelen Singh, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Tuensang Division.

A stage play performed by students of St. John Higher Secondary School, Tuensang, conveyed a powerful message on environmental conservation, earning appreciation from all attendees. The event concluded with a closing note by S. Nayang.

The celebration served as a significant platform to promote awareness on biodiversity conservation while fostering harmony between humans and nature in the region.
