Nagaland Embarks on Phase V FMD Vaccination at Kohima, Nagaland - In a significant step towards protecting the state's livestock, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Nagaland, launched Phase V Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination program at Lerie Farm, Kohima, on 21st March 2025 and end on 21st May 2025 as per the Ministry guideline.
The vaccination drive aims to immunize 68,050 numbers of cattle and other susceptible animals against FMD, a highly contagious and economically devastating disease that affects livestock. The program is crucial in preventing the spread of FMD, which can have severe consequences on the state's livestock industry and livelihoods of livestock owners.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director of AH&VS emphasized the importance of vaccination in controlling FMD. "FMD is a major threat to our livestock industry, and vaccination is the most effective way to prevent its spread. We urge all livestock owners to cooperate with us and get their animals vaccinated to protect their livelihoods and the state's livestock industry."
The vaccination program is being implemented under National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries, Government of India.
Livestock owners have been requested to bring their cattle and other susceptible animals to the designated vaccination centers for immunization. The vaccination is free of cost, and livestock owners are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative to protect their animals.
