A significant milestone in the development of police infrastructure in Wokha district was marked with the inauguration of the new Superintendent of Police (SP) Office building and Police Barrack at Wokha on 5th January 2026. The event was graced by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister-in-Charge of Home and Border Affairs, Yanthungo Patton as the Special Guest. Also present was the Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, IPSThe Deputy Chief Minister first inaugurated the newly constructed Police Barrack, which was dedicated in prayer by Asst. Pastor Myingthungo Ezung of the Police Baptist Church, Wokha. This was followed by the formal inauguration of the SP Office building, with a dedicatory prayer led by Pastor Zuben Ngullie of the same church.

In his address, Yanthungo Patton congratulated the Wokha District Police and the Superintendent of Police for the successful completion of the new infrastructures. He expressed appreciation for the improved facilities and urged the public to actively support the police force by reporting crimes and cooperating with law enforcement. Highlighting the issue of under reported cases, he emphasized the importance of timely registration of complaints to ensure effective policing and access to resources. He also acknowledged the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, for his continued support and funding towards development and progress across the state. On the topic of police recruitment, Patton assured that the selection process would remain free, fair, and based solely on individual merit. He also extended heartfelt thanks to the land donor for generously contributing land for the construction of the new buildings.

Director General of Police, Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, IPS, in his remarks, stressed the importance of utilizing the new facilities to their fullest potential. He underscored the role of district police as first responders and noted that the number of registered cases often does not reflect the ground reality due to underreporting. He pointed out that the allocation of resources and future development is closely tied to the volume of reported cases. Sharma called for efficient police administration and the strengthening of trust between the police and the public.

The program was chaired by Superintendent of Police Wokha, T. Relo Aye, who also delivered the welcome address. He assured that the new buildings would be maintained with utmost care and used for the welfare and safety of the people, likening their upkeep to that of one’s own home. The vote of thanks was delivered by Additional SP Wokha, Biren Lotha, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, stakeholders, and contributors for their support in making the project a reality.

The inauguration marks a new chapter in the district’s law enforcement capabilities, reinforcing the commitment of the Nagaland Police to serve the people with enhanced efficiency and dedication.
