National Dengue Day is being observed on May 16 every year to raise public awareness about prevention and control of Dengue fever prior to the monsoon season. And today on the 16th of May the District Health Society Longleng with the initiative of NVBDCP Longleng observed the National Dengue Day under the theme, “Community Participation in Dengue Control: Check, Clean and Cover” under the guidance of NVBDCP, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland.

Various activities were carried out across Longleng District, in all the Health Units including District Hospital (DH) Longleng, Health & Wellness Centres and Sub- Centres where active participation indulge in cleanliness and sanitation drives in and around health institutions, colonies and public the areas to eliminate mosquito breeding sites such as stagnant water containers and waste materials.

Awareness programmes on Dengue prevention and control were also conducted in schools and communities by health workers and NVBDCP staff. Students and community members were educated on the signs and symptoms of Dengue, source reduction, maintaining cleanliness, and importance of personal protective measures such as use of mosquito nets, wearing full sleeve clothing and keeping surroundings clean.

IEC activities include distribution of leaflets to promote public participation in vector control activities, especially during the monsoon season.

The district health team appealed to the public to remain vigilant and actively participate in preventing mosquito breeding to protect the community from Dengue and other vector borne diseases. Similarly National Dengue Day was observed in all the Health Units under Longleng District.
