The monthly meeting of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Peren was held at DC’s Conference Hall, Peren on 6th March 2026 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru.
At the outset, the DC welcomed the members present and reviewed the agendas discussed in the previous meeting. Later, the house deliberated on matters related to the education sector and the need to take up necessary initiatives for improvement.
On the agenda pertaining to the National Highway Act, 1956 for construction of National Highways in the State of Nagaland, the DC informed the house that the proposal had been received from the Works & Housing Department. Stating that the matter was important and required wider consultation, the Deputy Commissioner directed both the Tribal Bodies - NZPO and Kuki Inpi, Nagaland to discuss along with other stakeholders and get back with their views and opinions for further consideration.
On the proposal for declaration of Peren as Green District Headquarters, the DC briefed the house on the concept behind the initiative and stated that once the area is declared a Green District Headquarters, efforts would be made to preserve trees, plants and wildlife. The district would also work towards formulating its own policy and explore funding sources in coordination with the Urban Development Department. The DC further informed that the matter would be pursued further and sought cooperation and support from the members. After deliberation, the house approved the proposal.
The house also agreed to the proposal for creation of a Police Outpost at the District Headquarters to strengthen security and enforcement mechanisms.
Deliberating on the application for construction of a spring well/reservoir, the house decided to refer the proposal to the Land Resources Department for further examination.
The DC also highlighted issues regarding irregular attendance of government officials in Jalukie Sub-division, as reported by the Jalukie Town Council during a recent meeting. The DC directed the Heads of Offices to ensure that their officers and staff posted in sub-divisions remain regular at their respective places of posting. He also informed that administrative officers at the sub-divisional level would be directed to supervise and monitor the attendance of government employees.
The DC further informed that the Deputy Chief Minister had recently enquired about departments that do not have their own office buildings or residential quarters at the District Headquarters. In this regard, he urged those departments to submit details for onward submission to the government for necessary action.
Referring to the Orchid Festival held at Peren Town, organized by the Peren Town Women Welfare Organization (PTWWO), the DC asked the District Horticulture Officer, Peren to prepare a proper action plan for promotion of orchid cultivation and explore possible collaboration with the School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD).
Executive Engineer, Power Department, Er. Tsiamchi Ndang highlighted various initiatives and schemes being undertaken by the department. He encouraged government departments to make use of subsidies provided by the Central Government and informed that installation of smart meters in government offices would be implemented shortly. In this regard, all Heads of Offices were requested to clear outstanding electricity dues prior to the installation.
Principal of Government Polytechnic Peren, Neikhrove Pfuno also apprised the house of challenges faced by the institution, particularly in road connectivity and water supply, and sought support from the DPDB members. On the issue of road connectivity, the DC directed the Principal to submit a written letter to be taken up with the Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B) and the concerned construction firm. Regarding the water supply issue, the Principal was asked to submit a proposal which would be forwarded to the Urban Development Department for necessary action.
Chief Medical Officer, Peren also highlighted the ongoing nationwide HPV vaccination campaign, which was recently launched for girls aged 14 years to protect against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
